HUMAN EDGE
This week I was asked to give a talk for the team at Consiglieri. They let me choose the topic, and I immediately ran for a collection of inspiring examples I've been earmarking over the past year.
Why these examples?
As Nate Hagens recently wrote about, unchecked AI and algorithmic amplification will swiftly drive us toward industrialized content production, creating an epidemic of ‘ultra-processed information’—cheap, polished, addictive output that swamps genuine signal and erodes collective sensemaking.
Accelerated homogenization and degraded trust.
Further scaling our existing dysfunctions.
Making us all more vulnerable and less resilient.
I know what AI can actually do. Which makes it maddening to watch resources get poured into content automation instead of climate, energy, agriculture, medicine, infrastructure, species extinction, and more.
The good news is there are people doing more and better with artificial intelligence:
• The Recovery & Reanimation of Dead Languages
• Protecting Indigenous Knowledge & Lands
• Regenerative Agriculture & Soil Health
• Speculative Artistic Collaborations
• Bridging Communication With Animals
And although they may not be getting covered as much in the news, their efforts are laying a bright trail towards an alternative future, one that looks more like the one I want to build and live within.
👁️ I've placed a link to my deck here if you'd like to take a peek.
And -- I invite you to find even more examples out in the world, and when you do please share them as often as you can. Let's write the future narrative we want vs. simply accepting the one we're being force fed.
